How I Take Notes When Reading a Book

A couple of weeks ago, I published this video where I shared how I take notes while reading using note books where I journal my thoughts. It’s got many views and it made me realise how it might be an important topic for some people. I was interested in their comments which showed that we all have different ways.

One of the things that I have noticed is that ever since leaving the workforce and now well into “retirement”, early as it is, I’m reverting to more physical notes – physical books – writing by hand.

Partly the reason is because I don’t want to be tied to a computer or be constantly on the phone. Digital note taking is great if you are okay with this – or you are at your desk for hours on end; or in front of a screen.

I’m not anymore.

The times I read are in the mornings and every afternoon, on the sofa and with a cup of tea. The idea of logging on and firing up a computer or reaching for my phone to tap out notes is an affront. No way. I’d rather have my journal with my nice pen or coloured markers nearby to have more free flow in my writing.

The other reason may be that my technology at home has reached the end of their useful age. My iMac and MacBook are both very old (2013) and constantly crashing and extremely slow. My tablet is around 2016 as well. So I need to seriously consider buying a new computer now that has the latest programs and technology despite irking about the cost.

Let’s see. I keep putting it off for now and return to my reading. It’ll be a problem for another day.

Helen! I have noticed myself making the same shift to hand-written notations when I’m reading a print book. Happy to have found you again.

Hello Lisa! Long time no see. I hope you’re well? What’s news? I’ve lost contact with most – if not all – of the Twitter network of the past. I hope you’re well and enjoying life.
