Flâneur Friday ~ Patterson Lakes

Yesterday I thought I’d take a short trip down to Patterson Lakes. It’s a suburb about twenty minutes drive from my place inland near the Patterson River. The entire suburb consists of canals and waterways with the houses each having a small jetty and a boat. It reminded me of being in Queensland on holiday.

My first stop was the Harbourside Plaza. I imagined heaps of Harbourside cafes and bustling pubs and restaurants but it wasn’t exactly that. Instead I walked through the plaza and got to the harbour where there was one restaurant open serving coffees. It was a cool morning so I sat outside to the above view and ordered a coffee and then read my book.

Imagine my delight when the server placed a bruschetta in front of me. It was complimentary! You don’t get that often so I politely said thank you. It was delicious!

Afterwards when I went inside to pay for the coffee, the server said it was $3.56. I don’t think I payed that type of money for a coffee since 2015. Seriously, coffees now are usually $5.50 or more.

So that made my morning!

Afterwards I wandered through the $2 shop and bought myself a shopping trolley on wheels that I can take with me to markets rather than carrying everything. It had prints of owls all over it (I love owls), and I couldn’t walk by without buying it for $20. I was so happy wheeling that thing behind me….

I crossed the road and headed into the library and while there, I posted a message into my Book Club WhatsApp Group that I was there. One of the members messaged me back soon afterwards to tell me that she’d meet me there.

She lived in the area and happened to be near the library. We talked for a bit and planned our next book club event where I’ve invited an author to come and tell us about the book that she wrote.

Afterwards, it was time to head back home so I decided to go via the coast road along the Nepean Highway and stopped briefly at Chelsea Beach nearby. There was hardly anyone there and the water so crystal clear. It was perfect. I made a mental note to bring my bathers and towel next time.

The weather will be warm again next week. Maybe I can come here and pitch up an umbrella and stay for a few hours.
