I run the Book Club called Birdies, Bogies and Books at our golf club. There’s about 20 or so people who are signed up in our WhatsApp group and although we don’t have everyone come along to the meetings every month, there’s about 8-10 people who do.
To my surprise, I’ve had positive feedback about the club and the book selections for 2024. I choose all the books although I receive recommendations as well. The members also use the WhatsApp group to share links to what they’re reading or listening to by way of audiobooks and podcasts.
On Wednesday this week, I had the last book club meeting for the year. I couldn’t host one in December as it was too close to Christmas.
We talked about the excellent book by John Boyne, The Heart’s Invisible Furies. You can see what I said about it here. 👇
At the end of the meeting, the ladies presented me with a pot of lovely flowers. I had been wishing to pot some flowers and meaning to get some in the weeks before but in that week, I got some from the book group AND my mum the next day. How funny is that! Now I have the flowers I wanted to pot just by wishing it to the universe. 🤣
It was a heartfelt gesture for the ladies to do this. It’s such a pleasure for me as it doesn’t feel like work to run and host the Book Club. I love that we can read books and share what we thought about them.
I’ll continue the club into 2025 and beyond.
Already, I’ve organised an author event for February which I’m looking forward to – and which I’ll write more about in the next couple of months.
