Okay, so we can’t travel at the moment because everything is so expensive and we are waiting until Andrew retires in January 2026 BUT I can still pretend…
This afternoon when the sun came out, I decided to head out to our backyard under the wonderful paperbark tree (which is 53 years old) to try out a new putter. I turned on the radio to my favourite local community radio station and they had the Hawaiian Music show!
(I love Hawaii with all my ❤️ and love their music and culture).
Hey! I could pretend to be in Hawaii!
The putter is not exactly new. It’s one of my husband’s old putters but it’s still newer than my own left handed putter – which is as old as the tree.
I’m left handed when it comes to any ball and racquet games and right handed with everything else so using this putter is very different. Everything seems awkward because it doesn’t feel natural to me to swing a club right handed.
But I realised (after watching someone else putt the same way I was experimenting today) that if I swap my hands around, it seems to be easier to putt. It’s still a tad awkward (it certainly looks awkward- a golf pro would have conniptions) because I’ve got everything arse end about but if I can hit it straight and with some control, then it doesn’t matter what club I use left or right or even how I hold it. The ultimate aim is to sink the ball in the lowest number of strokes anyway.
Besides, if I bought a new left handed putter, it would cost me about $600-$900 and frankly, it’s money I’d put towards a new dishwasher or even getting an electrician in to do sone work. There’s other priorities than my golf. (Even a holiday would be nice).
So when I was clearing out some stuff from the other room, I saw Andrew’s old sets of right handed golf clubs and I figured, if I could just practice using the right handed putter, I could save a bit of money.
It’s handy being ambidextrous.
The result is that I’m loving this putter! With my Hawaiian music, my favourite sporting activity under my favourite tree that I lie on the grass and look to the sky through its branches, what’s not to love? It’s like being in Hawaii. Okay, only in my head. 🤣
Update: Played with this right handed putter at golf and failed dismally. Going back to just being all left handed. I can’t be playing both right and left during a game because it discombobulates me. 🤣
