(I just looked at this photo and saw that he’s holding up a sign that says, ‘Stop and Pray’. Ha! Now that I’ve inserted it into the blog, I can’t be bothered removing it and replacing it with something else. I’d pray that these annoying spammers have their server farms zapped and blown up in a fiery explosion. Anyway…let’s press on).
Sometimes I wonder what is the point of having this blog however, I’m way down the track now to delete the whole lot too because I’ve invested so much time into it. I have videos, photos, thoughts and reflections from many years back so it feels awkward to let it all go like I did social media.
My blog is different.
I have a premium paid subscription to a site that ensures security to this site but it seems that there’s brute force attacks every so often. I get notifications on my phone to tell me when they are happening. In the software, you can view all the data regarding these attacks and then set up protocols to minimise them however, you can never stop them completely.
Some time back, I created blocks to the countries that they seem to be coming from. You know, the usual players such as Russia and China. However, today, I went through the country list again and this time blocked most of the countries in the world. In the last week, the attacks stemmed from Singapore and Ireland.
It made me think about why I even have this blog in all honesty, I think I’m writing just for myself. It’s nice to get a comment here and there but ultimately, what difference would it make if I simply just blocked all the countries? I wouldn’t get comments and then the next question is, why am I paying for a subscription to WordPress and WordFence – I may as well take it all offline and save myself some money.
The thing is, I still enjoy getting some comments here and there. However, I have decided to block most countries except a handful where I have my friends and family living or working. I know that spammers are a sophisticated bunch and with the use of a VPN can still get through but if I can minimise the attacks even further – even for a little bit – then that’s fine by me. Besides, I’m not using this site for any business so there’s really no need for it to be open to every country except for about five or six countries.
So that’s what I’ve done. I’ve put a wall around this site so only people from six countries can access it. That’s it.
Let’s see how that goes.

Testing…..from Rockville, Maryland, USA. 🙂 For what it’s worth, I’ll say this: your writing and book reviews are go-to favorites. Lots of strange activity out in internetland, and I hope it doesn’t gum up all the good things, like your blog.

Let’s see if the odd crazy attacks stop or at least reduce somewhat!!
Thank you always for your nice words.
