Saturday June 8th is worldwide Knitting in Public Day and one of the local libraries in the area, hosted an event for knitters and crocheters. They also had biscuits and a barista there for biscuits and coffees as well as baskets of yarn and needles for anyone to have a go.
I decided to go again as last year I had gone with my mum and friends but this year, it was me only. However, while there you chat with others and learn what everyone is knitting. If you have any problems with your project, you can always find a helping hand.
What I loved about this year was that the age groups were younger this year. I love looking at the younger generation working with their hands and creating their own creative projects.
One of the things I noticed about my life is that I don’t have any young people in it. I’m always with people who are older than me in their 60s, 70s and 80s so I don’t get to experience what younger people – (I don’t even know anyone in their 20s to 40s) – do or say.
It was nice to sit with them and talk and knit and shoot the breeze even though I felt like some imposter, equally intrigued and amused with their view of the world and how they spoke to each other.
I came away that afternoon refreshed and optimistic and vowing I need to broaden the ages of people in my orbit.
Now that we are in winter, my golf has lessened because it’s too cold and wet to play and instead, I’m at home most days in my pjs knitting, reading, writing and watching Netflix. At times I feel like I’m 80 already. 🤣
It was nice to spend an afternoon knitting as part of a group.
