I don’t know why people say you dream in black and white.
I can assure you I dream in full splendorous colour and like I’m watching a film.
Last night I dreamt that I was working for some start up design company. Their offices were all clean bare pinewood panelled, minimal layout and sleek furniture. A black and white wordless logo on the wall. I was walking through its corridors and pulling my bicycle along as I had a meeting to get to in one of its rooms.
Instead, I decide to turn around and head out of the building and up the hill.
I’m pulling my bike up with some considerable effort and once I’m up on the top, it’s already night. I look down to the Design Building with its evening lights on shining out of its doors and windows and then I look up at the sky.
It’s a sky full of the constellation of stars and planets and it’s beautiful. I look up and around in awe.
After a while there’s a siren that goes off in the building below and I rush down the hill with my bike.
People are streaming out of the building but I need to go inside. I leave my bike aside and then rush to the stairs and descend them. The stairs are multicoloured with the most beautiful vibrant colours and patterns. It’s like I’m walking on large cloth rolls you’d buy at a fabric store. I’m amazed at the colours and realise that I’m in between floors.
Someone pushes past me and tells me that I’m on the “Women’s Floor”.
This makes me curious.
I yell out, “why don’t the men and women work together?”
“Because work would never get done!” they respond rushing up the stairs.
That’s where the dream stops.
I think there’s a blend of a few things in this dream.
I’ve been watching The Three Body Problem on Netflix which explains the beautiful night sky and star constellation.
I’ve also been reading Euripides’ play Medea before I fell asleep and I remember thinking of the way the men talked about the women in Ancient Greece (witches, hags, etc) and how they were lamenting that women never allowed the men to do what they want (fight wars, kill their wives, marry other women, kill enemies etc)
As for the colourful cloths on the stairs?
Who knows.
Maybe it’s my conscience telling me I need to get to a Lincraft or Spotlight store to buy more yarn. 🤣
So yeah. Colours and movie-like dream sequences are quite typical for me. It’s not strange to me anymore. It seems normal.
In my dreams, everything seems real and like I’m in a movie with a clear beginning, middle and end. Maybe if I wake up and write it all down I can actually write a novel from it one day.
That wouldn’t be surprising. If anything it tells me that my imagination sometimes is stimulated or it comes alive.
I just need to find a way to capture it somehow.
(Sometimes I’ve had dreams where others in my family had the EXACT dreams that same night. Exact details and not discussing anything with them previously. How do you explain that?! Maybe that’s a blog post for another time but I’m thinking I must have some higher level of intuition for this to happen. Who knows. I can’t explain it.

Like you I dream in colour and vivid ones also. Some seem to involve cricket according to my wife as she says I bowl overs in my sleep. Like you it often relates to what I’ve read or watched. I’m currently reading the 1662 Book of Common Prayer (weird but the language even if you aren’t religious is some of the most beautiful in the English Language. I’m also reading a book about the early days of space travel. So one of my future dreams will be a combination of Wolf Hall and Foundation who knows

Whoa! Yes, get ready for some wonderfully vivid dreams if you’re reading such books. Enjoy! 😊
