There’s a family of magpies that live in one of the trees in our yard. Every day we see five or six of them ripping into our lawn searching for worms. Andrew gets irate as he’s spent hours preparing this lawn , fertilising, coring and watering it. Over winter it’s going to go dormant. He tells me it’s a particular type of grass that is drought resistant, “tiff-tuff” and usually found on golf courses. The grass, rather than growing vertically, grows horizontally and it’s also weed resistant. During the growing season, it’s abundant and green and lush.
Until the birds start ripping it up. 🤣
The magpies are not afraid of us nor Pud which seems amused watching them but he doesn’t seem to have any hunting instinct. Instead he sits on his scratching post watching them.
Now that the weather is getting cooler, I like to sit in this light filled room reading or knitting. It’s lovely to see the bird life that visit us outside.
