I’m excited!!!!
I’ve booked myself to do this creative writing workshop at the wonderful home Mulberry Hill, of writer Joan Lindsay (author of Picnic at Hanging Rock) and artist Darryl Lindsay.
WORKSHOP: WAYS OF LOOKING
Saturday 17 February 2024
10am – 3pm
Created for writers, this is an interactive workshop where participants encounter a work of art, and craft a written response. Participants will be encouraged to think and write visually, using Mulberry Hill artworks as inspiration. Learn how art historians look at the formal aspects of art, as well as how an artist’s biography and cultural context can enhance and deepen any written description of an artwork, in both fiction and non-fiction. Learn how to bring to life your internal interpretations of a work, or simply write using it as a catalyst for stories inspired by the work in front of you.
Back in 2022 I read her biography Time Without Clocks which I loved. It recounted her days where they lived a peaceful and creative life in a house that they renovated to be an oasis and space for writing and painting. It was an idyllic time for them in their lives (time without clocks) and in fact the book also shared how life was like in the 1920s in Melbourne. It’s a beautiful read and I did a review of this book too.
I’m a member of Heritage Victoria so when I saw that they were having creating writing workshops there, I immediately booked as I had never been out to the house (it’s only open once a month to the public).
When I get there, I’ll take some video footage and put together a video of the place and the workshop. Before then though, I’ll need to crack those knuckles and start writing as well as read Time Without Clocks again to be reinspired with this place and time.
In this video below, Joan Lindsay talks about their life in Mulberry Hill.
