Today was our golf club’s 109th Women’s Annual Trophy Presentation and Christmas Lunch.
I was looking forward to this event. We were in teams of three and had a shot gun start at 9am for 9 holes. We all got dressed up in our Christmas costumes as there was a prize for the best dressed team.
My two other playing partners are my usual golf partners (we came through the Women Into Golf Program as a cohort) so we dressed in Christmas pyjamas and enjoyed ourselves today. Unfortunately I haven’t been playing so well these last few games – I seem to have lost my swing mojo – but luckily, C got 24 points for 9 holes. An amazing score!
I won the Jade Trophy stroke competition for netting score this year which is my first ever sporting trophy in my life.
The only other trophy I’ve ever won is one for acting back in 1994. That’s it. Sad really. Just goes to show that I’m a generalist and not a specialist in anything in my life.
The trophy presentation was followed by a lovely lunch of fish and then this decadently rich chocolate mousse dessert.
I would say that playing golf and being part of this golfing community of women is one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Not only is it wonderful for health and wellbeing, it’s social as well because my cohort group of women are now my new friends. I’ve always like to be a “part of something” like a club as it energises and motivates me. I’m looking forward to more golf in 2024 and broadening my golfing horizons.
