There was a lot of bird shite on our lawn and I looked up to see a couple of Tawny Frogmouths sitting in our tree. I think it was Mother and Baby while the Father looked on in the next tree. (These birds mate for life and share the feeding of their chicks). They look like owls but are from another family of birds – nightjars – usually found in these areas of the world.

I think they look cute but are quite grumpy-looking. They can blend in with their surroundings and mimic the branches they’re on to capture prey so it’s always a surprise to look up and notice them in the tree in our yard.
