I guess there’s a point in everyone’s life when they do a major decluttering of the things in their life to mark transition points. I realised that my home office study will need an overhaul with all the text books and reference books that I have collected over the years.
As I try and figure out what I will focus on for the rest of my life that will take my through my 50s and beyond, I realise that it’s unlikely I’ll ever need or refer to these books again and so I will need to make space for that ‘new thing’. Besides, I need more shelf space for my literary classics, history and my knitting books.
The books I am clearing out are only mine. My husband will get rid of his over the next couple of years when he retires and will go through all of his books. It makes you realise just how much stuff we accrue over the years and how most of it, really is of little use to me know.
