June 10th is Knitting In Public Day and this year, Linda, librarian of Caulfield Library and expert crafter organised an afternoon of knitting for our local community.
So I gathered a couple of friends from my knitting and ukulele groups (who then invited theirs) and headed down to enjoy knitting and chatting for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon.
It was great to see women of all ages sitting around and showing their work or teaching others their skills. I was wearing my autumn jumper and one lady even called out to me,
“That design is from Jennifer Steingass isn’t it?”
It always amazes me when knitters know the designers work. 🤣 It’s a great way how knitters break the ice and jump into conversation immediately.
Linda was happy with the turnout and she’s planning to organise more of these afternoons because of the great turn out.
All the libraries in my surrounding area have Yarn Chats so you can end up going to one every day of the week if you wanted to but there’s none on weekends. I think weekends would bring more people of different ages in.
Overall a lovely afternoon meeting new people with interest in crafting.
