If you haven’t already heard about artificial intelligence then you may have been living under a rock but trust me, if you could move over a bit, I’d like to come in there under with you too.
This book is a collection of chapters based of research and interviews on how technology today is using data – flawed data – that may put us backwards in some way especially if it means parts of society like women, the aged, the disadvantaged, the poor are impacted.
A sobering read about how artificial intelligence will be the major change we will see in our lives soon and which will make us question everything we read, see, do and create.
In this video I share a summary of the book but also what I’m doing to “prepare” for AI however, the irony is that I don’t think I can ever be – or get prepared – as this shakes the foundations of what it means to be human. There’s going to be lots of philosophical debating about how AI helps or hinders certain groups in society.
I may convince myself that I’m doing what I can but ultimately, the system will suck me into its vortex, just like everyone else is – and is on their way to. I expect that so why fight it anymore?
(TBH AI tools are pretty much everywhere and it’s a hot topic now – but they’ve been around for many years and likely you have been using them already eg chatbots, voice activated search tools etc).
Since creating this video, in a large Melbourne bookstore, as of May 2023, there was a bottom shelf of only 8 books devoted to AI. Watch this space explode in coming months as already the conversation online have all moved to how AI is impacting every part of what we know today. And what we don’t know.
There’s a lot of unknown unknowns and that is the most worrying part. (Of course AI is also helping us as well in different industries). A couple of podcast shows I’m listening to share all the great things AI is helping in Australia.
The graphic of the book was made by an AI art generator too using MidJourney AI.
Interested in your thoughts.
(1) What do you think about the AI conversations happening online?
(2) How have you been impacted (good and bad)?
(3) What are you doing to learn more about this?
(4) What resources do you recommend to get up to speed with this topic?
(5) What AI tools have you used? How?
