I’ve been going down the rabbit warren of AI and realised that I’m reading and seeing more of the bias in these machines versus the good they can do in the world. After all, most of us are using them in our everyday lives just to function through our devices, calendars, maps etc.
I wanted to explore the alternative side to them. That is, the good they can do in the world in particular focusing on Australian scientists (and hopefully, if I find more females in AI as opposed to American “tech bros”) to learn from. I think I noticed that all my information was coming from tech bros that I needed a balanced view.
Besides, I know that what im doing – holding off from using AI for creativity or learning – stems from a basis of fear.
Fear of myself knowing myself too well. I know that I’ll jump into this new thing hook, line and sinker and will want to explore this stuff for myself but I’m just holding back…for now. I just want to give some space between my need to learn something new versus keeping my time and attention and focus on just enjoying being in the moment.
Of not being the first to learn this stuff.
Of not being the one who jumps on the bandwagon.
Of not being one who questions.
So for now, I’ll bide my time and just keep learning without jumping in feet first.

Here’s a couple of podcast shows i have been listening to which are worthwhile (and Australian).
Australian CSIRO Everyday AI
Great episodes of good stories of how AI has helped people and industries and how they’re using it to augment and create.

AI Australia Podcast
This podcast has been around for years and I like their Women in AI APAC series. In fact, many of their episodes have women’s views and perspectives so in a way, I’m thankful that we are getting more diverse voices in this field.
“The AI Australia Podcast is hosted by Natalie Rouse and Dr Kobi Leins and brought to you by eliiza. We report what’s going on in Artificial Intelligence in Australia today with a particular focus on practicing responsible AI, diversity and inclusion and AI at scale.
What should we be aware of? And how could this affect society in Australia? Natalie is a champion of all things data committed to spreading better understanding of the impacts of AI within our communities. Dr Kobi Leins is a reformed lawyer who has always run alongside (and at times with) science and technology. We bring in leaders from across industry to get a sneak peak into what they’re working on and how they are handling any ethical considerations.”
