Last month I ordered a new set of customised golf clubs. I had myself fitted for a range as my old set was over 15 years old.
Like everything, new technology means that sporting equipment like golf clubs improve over the years. I decided to order the ultra new Callaway Paradym X Driver which they tell me was designed by AI. (Of course that wasn’t a positive to me 🤣).
I tested a range of hybrids, wedges and irons and in the end settled for the Titlist range. The golf pro uses a simulation and checks your distance on each club and gets you to do a range of different activities to see how you’re hitting the ball, and where you’re hitting the ball. I’m amazed with the amount of data they can collect from the simple act of hitting a golf ball to make an assessment of your swing and the best club to suit it and your game.
I got myself the Calloway driver, the Titlist 5 and 6 hybrids (which I’ve never played before), 5,7,8,9 fairway irons, a 5W (I’ve never played with that either always choosing my trusted 3W in the past), a sand wedge and a gap wedge (never played with that either). I’ve kept my old battered PowerBuilt 20+ year old putter because I love it so it’s my “lucky putter”. It looks like the oldest club in the bag but no matter. It never lets me down.
I bought myself a new black Callaway bag too to store everything in and the next thing is to buy a golf cart however, I have to try and reign in the spending as I’m not working now. I’ve just been using the carts they provide to public and they seem to do the job.
I had to wait for my clubs as the driver wasn’t on the market yet and as I’m left handed (although I do everything else with my right hand), there’s always a limited range fir lefties. However the set came in last week and I picked them up from Drummond Golf Store and went to the range to have a hit. I love them!
This morning I’m heading out again for 9 holes this time just easing myself into them because I know my game would not be the same for a while until I get used to them.
Let’s see!
