I’ve been getting into crochet with some vigour as I’m enjoying learning new stitches and projects.
I decided to experiment with this project which is top down. I made it up as I went along and figured if I can crochet a granny square, then I can do this. So I joined a chain into a square then use the corners to increase (like I do in a granny square), and fold over to make sleeves. It basically eradicates the need to sew anything up when you finish. Bonus! I hate sewing anything.
I made this in acrylic yarn. Usually I NEVER use fake yarn but my crochet projects are all experiments. Once I get comfortable with it, I’ll start to use the good stuff however, every time I wear my crochet tops, I get stopped in the street or in shops with women asking me where I got them from.
Every. Single. Time.
I guess that should be a good thing that strangers give compliments. They don’t do it for my knitted projects unless it has some colour work on it but I think it’s because knits actually look like they’re store bought. Crochet just looks like something your granny knitted up.
Apparently it’s a “thing” now. I was told crochet TikTok is very popular.
Anyway, I’m no fan of TikTok but I have to thank YouTube for giving me the skill of this new craft. Watching free tutorials by people all around the world has improved my crochet and the confidence to crochet up some tops Id never have done otherwise.
I’m looking forward to wearing this striped crop top with my wide legged jeans this week when we go to see The Proclaimers in concert.
