Ah, Tolstoy.
Whenever I peer up at a blue sky with wispy white clouds drifting by, all I can now think about is Prince Andrei in War and Peace who fell on his back unceremoniously on the first day of the Battle of Borodino. While the chaotic battle was raging around him, the clouds slowly and quietly drifted by in the sky just as they had always done.
Why hadn’t he noticed their beauty before?
He had focused on irrelevant, useless and mundane activities, waiting for the glory of battle, when all he needed to do was to look up and see the blue sky. In an instant, he felt humble and appreciative that he was alive to witness the beauty above.
For an instant, everything made sense.
