I’ve uploaded my latest video where I show some new books I bought in the last couple of weeks in the sales.
Through filming it, there was a dawning realisation of the types of themes and topics I’m interested in – all being about trying to ask those deep questions about life and how I’m enjoying reading stories now more so than those so called self-help books. I’d rather clean my own lessons from reading stories of characters and the situations and dilemmas they may have.
I’m onto the third volume of War & Peace and I’m surprised at how much I look forward to reading this every day. Today I took it with me in the car so that while waiting for my friend to go on our weekly beach walk, I could continue reading it. It’s quite addictive to read and the characters relatable as they go through a personal transformation too.
The more I read it, the more I’m beginning to realise that this book was meant to be read now. Nearing the end of 2022, a year of immense personal transformation – of rupture – where I tossed out the thinking I had in the past around work and technology and having to keep up – to a life appreciating the little things, the moments, simplicity, the now.
I’m beginning to see everything that I had been thinking about in the characters in War and Peace…. And the types of books I’m buying and reading.
The answers to life’s big questions are staring at us in our face.
