So, I’ve got another few videos up online on my YouTube channel where I review books that I read.
There’s a few books I don’t review because frankly, I prefer to read than record a video. I read faster than shooting and editing videos. (There’s that whole palaver of having to also be ready – dressed and made up which also adds a whole level of tedium). I guess that’s saying something as to why I bother with the channel but in all honesty, I’m holding out to see if it’s worth my while.
Admittedly, I do enjoy the comments left on my reviews from people around the world – even the nasty ones of which there are a few and hence why I need to moderate the comments. I deliberately try to read books that are unknown or not on best seller lists or on the shelves currently because well, it’s just too much pressure.
I like to see the Views in very low numbers than very high numbers. The latter usually brings more pressure on me to “perform” or even worse, have people contact me to send me their books to have me review for them. (I turn these down because again, it doesn’t come across as genuine. What if they send me their book and I HATE it? Do I have to give it a good review? Dilemmas which I want nothing to do with.
Well anyway, I’m trying to do the OPPOSITE of what people usually do on YouTube.
The irony is not lost on me that technically, the best way to do this is to simply, not be on it.
I can see my YouTube channel becoming yet another platform where I like to talk to myself, wiffle and waffle on about life with no expectations of any exchanges or making a business out of it. To be honest, when people DO respond, it’s always a surprise. Sometimes I forget I put my thoughts out there in public as most of the time, I’m in my own little world. As such I have started sharing my ramblings of books in the Community section of the YouTube channel.
Well anyway, here’s a couple more book reviews.
METROLAND by Julian Barnes (excellent)
Back in 1997, Christian Bale played in the movie of the same name. I had no idea he was English (!)
GRATITUDE BY DELPHINE DE VIGAN
THE WIFE AND THE WIDOW BY CHRISTIAN WHITE
(This was our local library book club book and usually not a book I’d read).
