Meandering Walk Around Cheltenham Park

This morning, a bit of sunshine was peeking out of the clouds and as it’s a public holiday (Melbourne Cup), it was anticipated that the weather would turn with more wind and rain again. So I quickly left the house to drive 5 minutes down the road to walk around Cheltenham Park and Golf Course.

Entry into the park, you come across this old light pole. You don’t see these everywhere so it stood out. I wonder where the original ironwork came from? 🤔
The park is one of the few in the area that is like bush land. There’s heaps of tea trees, wattle trees, banksias and pine trees. I took some of the trails and just watched the bird life and took photos of some of the plants.
To the left of this picture is the Cheltenham cemetery. Not a place I’d go walking at night. 🤣
This looks like wild rosemary without the smell. This plant is everywhere.
This is the banksia tree and the pods were enormous
Look how huge they are!
The rosellas were out in force. Here they were eating the banksia flowers.
The silver wattle trees (acacia) were in bloom but also these brown turd like growths are due to fungal growth as a result of rust infections on the leaves or tree.
These are everywhere too. Otherwise known as “Old Mens Beard”
There were tons of wild mushrooms about due to lots of rain. However I wouldn’t be eating any of them!
I found a five cent coin. That’s good luck isn’t it? 🤣
