I started a Book Club Community on Yammer at work as one of the first communities to get people onto the platform. (Little success as I was the main one posting in it). However, at various times people told me that I should read certain authors from their own country. So I did that and it was a great way to read the English translations of current books that are in their book stores.
I didn’t offer any currently on our best seller lists in Australia (1) because I don’t usually read them preferring to read other books and (2) no one asked for any Australian authors anyway.
However, I think one of the quickest and easiest way to learn about another culture is to read books from their authors. So I started to read the Dutch author recommendations my colleagues gave me.
I found Dimitri Verhulst. Now he’s not from the Netherlands, he’s actually Belgian. Thankfully, I’ve loved the Belgian authors I’ve read this year and Verhulst is no different. I loved his writing style in the Latecomer. Hers more about the book which I found in my local library and unfortunately I cannot find any other English translations of his work in the libraries near me.
