Last night Andrew and I headed off once again to see Bill Bailey at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda.
It’s an impressive building built in the early 1900’s by the same guy who built Luna Park across the road. This theme park is one of two in the world that gives us a glimpse of how people back the entertained themselves with fairground attractions. Andrew and I resolved to spend a day at Luna Park one day because even though we live nearby, we haven’t gone into the theme park in many years.
We have not missed a Bill Bailey show since he started coming out here. His shows are wholesome, witty and entertaining. Boy, did he let go with the fact that Liz Truss is no longer UK’s PM and with the likelihood that the “wind blown hay bale” Boris Johnson may return.
We had great seats too. Five rows from the front meant we saw up close all the instruments he was playing. It always amazes me how someone can be so musical but at the same time be able to hold an audience for two hours. He brought out a small black notebook where he read out some jokes that went nowhere and it got me thinking, my notebooks are full of crappy scribbles. His are full of quirky, bizarre observations of life and stories of animals. Last night, he shared that hope lies with the French Polynesian snail.
You’ll have to go to the show to find out why.
