This morning Andrew arrives home fifteen minutes after he left for the golf course. I thought he has forgotten something which doesn’t set up the day ahead because he becomes cranky for the rest of it. However, the course was closed due to fog.
That was my signal to get up from bed, get dressed and get out there. It was thick fog and no breath of wind. I wanted to see it.
I walked to the local park where the football club was setting up for the games that morning. I did a couple of rounds before deciding to go to a cafe for a cappuccino and a hot porridge. It’s Sunday morning and people are out and about. Australians go crazy for breakfast out. The cafes are full and people huddled outside under heaters with their puffer jackets, dogs on leash and their lattes warning their hands.
The porridge and coffee warms me up to face the walk home. It’s likely Andrew will be watching television all day today so I may use the opportunity to find a quiet corner to knit. I started a new project knitting a cabled sleeveless vest from Scottish designer Kate Davies. It’s providing me a bit of a challenge so I need to focus on it without distractions.
I loved this pattern and colour when I saw it. I think I was also attracted to the style. She’s wearing ultra flared pants and stripes top which is my standard dress nowadays. I’ve never worn anything yellow in my life but I thought the pop of colour in my wardrobe would jooz things up a bit. I have got quite a collection of knitted garments now – cables, colour work, all with beautiful plush yarn that I can’t bear to give it away.
Is it wrong to be impressed with your own work? ?
Coming back home, Andrew had already done the grocery shopping so it was time for me to do a bit of housework. First on the list was to wash my woollens. I hand wash these in eucalyptus wool wash and don’t agitate too much. After a gentle soak, I slowly wring them out before rolling them up in a towel to get rid of the water and lay them flat to dry over some days. I’m lucky to do this once a season.
Afterwards a couple of hours spent quietly knitting.
Then in the afternoon I had a tee time for 9 holes of golf at Woodlands Golf Course with my girlfriend Caroline. I was a bit worried we wouldn’t make it before the sun set on us but on the 9th hole, we made it in time to watch a spectacular sunset too. Here’s the photo from the 8th hole. I made this hole in 3 so I got par. Overall not bad.
For a day that started in thick fog, I finished it up with a lovely sunset and setting fog on the course. ?
