I’ve written many posts here in my blog about how I’ve been learning French then integrating this language into my life as much as possible.
It’s immersion by stealth. If you can’t visit or travel overseas to the country, we are spoiled for choice using technology and other ways to ensure we are surrounded by the language. For me conversation classes at the local cafe nearby plus weekly chats with my French friends overseas help greatly.
However I’m in a bit of a quandary.
With the weather improving, it means I also want to be out there playing golf, my new love. Time zones mean my conversations with people are in the afternooon – smack bang into golfing time. ?
I recently finished a 6 week Women Into Golf Program with the beautiful Woodlands Golf Course and while I’m waiting for my membership to be accepted by the Membership Committee, it means I can only play at times when other members and competitions are over (usually 3pm onwards). However this issue of French and Golf may not be an issue in August. You can read about this program below (it won an award by Golf Australia for the best women golfing program so chuffed to have done this).
Once my membership is accepted by end of July or early August, it means I can start to play much earlier in the day hence more time for French. So maybe I’m making a mountain out of a molehill.
I’ve decided to hold off from anymore Alliance Francaise courses and instead I bought a few more of this book series which I love. These books have done MORE for my French than any other class.
I’m pretty old school when it comes to learning. I need drills, I need feedback, I need practice. I bought the Complete French Grammar with over 350 pages of grammar exercises and finished it completely in pencil first then then redid the entire lot again by erasing out the pencil and rewriting all the exercises in pen again. I’m now integrating the Reading and Comprehension and some activities from French sentence builder which helps me a lot too.
I love these books. I have them on my kitchen table so they they’re easily accessible and I can open them at anytime.
