This was what a colleague had accidentally said when he got tongue tied talking about community during one team meeting and we all rolled around in laughter.
Little did he know that sometimes, you need to prod to get a reaction in a community. A Like, A Follow, A Share, Something, Anything….
Is there anyone out there??????
Sometimes these prods amount to nothing. No reaction. Crickets. Tumbleweed.
This is annoying to people like Community Managers.
Sometimes you need grand gestures like to oooh I don’t know, get off social media, write something controversial in the community just to get a rise from someone, or resign.
I’d love a mutiny to happen for real in a community or in a workplace (but then again, I am a mad keen William Bligh and Mutiny on the Bounty fan). I’ve written about the Bounty and Bligh many times on this blog.
Imagine if our workplaces had mutinies! That would be really exciting and it would be something that I’d hang around for. (History shows they don’t work out well for the mutineers).
Imagine if the people overtook the leadership teams and say, “Enough is enough! We’ll take over from here!”
In the past, people burned ships they mutineered.
What could I burn?
A wastepaper basket. YEAH! YEAH BURN THAT PAPER!
Oh hang on, we don’t have those anymore do we? OH CRAP.
Okay, I’ll put a PowerPoint slide with a video of a cracking fire on inserted. YEAH!
But then again, I can’t be stuffed having a mutiny.
So I’ll have a whinge instead. Then carry on doing what I do.
When there’s no community – mutiny (but quietly and in your own way).
