I watched this documentary today celebrating Princess Mary’s 50th birthday.
Everyone loves Mary. I remember the whole media story when her romance with Frederick became public after the Sydney Olympic Games (that’s where they met).
At the time, it was recounted as the “perfect love story” and given that in my younger years, I had disastrous dating life (namely, non existent as I couldn’t get a date to save myself), my girlfriends and I would lament, “hey, maybe we would meet our prince in a Sydney bar too! You never know!” ?
Joking aside, one of the things I admire about her is how she took everything in her stride. To pick up, leave your country, learn a difficult language and to learn and live life as a total and in the public eye, is a huge endeavour. I would never have wanted something like this.
Watching the documentary, you can’t help but admire her calm and steady way and how dedicated she is to her family and her work. She’s definitely a role model.
