It’s a dreary grey wet day in Melbourne. I feel as if the weather has finally turned. I was meant to meet up today with my friends Fiona (White Owly on Twitter) and Megan Strant but I postponed because of the weather.
It had been raining here since 5am and ever since we had the new pump put in to pump out gallons of water out to the storm water drain, this morning I heard it turn itself on and the result is: No flooding! Yay!
However, as it hadn’t rained for a while, I figured I didn’t want to be driving in the rain so I postponed the get together. I wish the weather was a bit nicer so we could also enjoy a beach walk but we will have to do it another time.
The day didn’t go to waste though. It’s Greek Easter week so there’s always something to do and get ready. I was also sneezing non-stop and hoping I wasn’t coming down with anything. (Oh I hope not!)
I spent my time clearing out the second bedroom and getting it ready for a visitor next week.
I’m excited to have our 21 year old nephew staying with us. I love it when we have house guests and even more so, if it’s family and close friends. It’ll be lovely to have him stay with us this week because he’s a breath of fresh air. He looks at the world differently with a lot of curiosity and expectation. I also have a sneaking suspicion that he enjoys staying with us.
I miss having young folk in our lives. We have nephews and nieces but they’re all living interstate or living further out from us. Over the years, we visited them but now, they’ve all grown and starting lives of their own. I think it would have been different if we lived closer to them.
In some way, I don’t miss having kids as much as missing out a lot on my nephews and nieces growing up. I do wish I was more of a presence in their lives because I enjoyed hanging out with them when we visited. Oh well. I’ll make the best with the time spent with them now.
Other than that, I folded all our laundry then put some order to my wardrobe. Over the last few years, I’ve been whittling down the clothes to those I wear the most (or ones I can’t bear to part). I still have to put some jumpers in there and the 5 or so dresses and a few coats are hanging in another cupboard. These are my clothes for now.
A selection of jeans; my knits; sportswear; couple of pants; some shirts; jackets and some tops.
I’ve got my makeup on one of the shelves as it’s where I put make up on (I can go close up to the mirror because I’m blind as a bat). Also the natural light from the window helps me. Otherwise it’s too dark anywhere else. Besides, I like having this little nook for just my stuff.
Other than that, as I’m feeling in a melancholy mood all day due to the lack of sleep last night and the weather, I put my PJs on at 1pm and read for some hours.
Tomorrow work starts up again but thankfully it’s only a 2 day week for me.
