Yesterday afternoon I had my second on course golf clinic with a few other ladies. I signed up for the Woodlands Golf Course Women’s Introductory Program which is a program involving classes, on course clinics, private lessons and mentoring where we each have one of the lady members help us learn the ropes of the game.
It’s fair to say that I’ve been enjoying the game immensely. There’s something special being out in the fresh air, surrounded by it’s of green and beautiful views. I get my exercise in and there’s always something to see.
We had our last on course game today before the private lessons and games with mentors start and it was wonderful. We got on at about 3:30pm and we were out there while the sun was setting.
I couldn’t stop looking at the beautiful sky. The clouds had a beautiful colour. Blues, reds, oranges against the green of the fairway that felt like carpet under our feet. It was a half moon too and it was the time not quite dark and not light – that InBetween time. I kept pointing it out to others. They were worried about where their ball had gone to, I kept looking up at the sky pointing out things with my golf course that I saw.
“Look how beautiful that scene ahead of us is!”
“Look at the moon, look how beautiful it looks half visible and the other half behind that cloud!”
“Wow, look at that colour of the sky!”
“Check how low that plane is flying!”
“Look at those magpies near our balls!”
“What are those birds do you think? No not birdie, the birds – those with the yellow beaks! They must have a nest nearby!”
(I later find out there’s a flora and fauna site on their website. I was pointing out those bloody pesky miner birds! https://www.woodlandsgolf.com.au/cms/course-info/fauna-flora/
And so it kept going until I was told by them to focus on hitting the ball.
Nevertheless it was the best golf I played. Everything seemed to work. I was happy with both my swing and my putting and only lost one ball. I was asked by my golf pro if I had played before.
I was just happy to be out there looking at all this beauty around me.
I’m enjoying this game immensely although I did ask Andrew if he minds me playing “his” game. He laughed at my question. He’s just happy for me to be out there enjoying myself. I like the idea of having a sport we can enjoy together but also one we can play with our own friends.
Tomorrow, on Sunday afternoon, I’m going to go back to Woodlands as there will be a reception for all the women in the program. I think they’ll be presenting information about membership options. I have to sit down and do my sums as to whether it’s something I can take on. If I do, it’ll be a wonderful sporting and social outlet meeting new people and learning this new sport to integrate it into my life.
The only question I have is that a couple of days ago, I accidentally found the Women’s locker room. (I was using the public Women’s toilet all this time).
In the locker room, there’s lockers, toilets, showers, towels, hair dryers, flat irons, everything you need but there were these very low sinks on the ground with taps. I wondered if they were those Italian sinks for washing yourself after you go to the toilet BUT they were out in the open. That is, they weren’t private. I put my foot in it wondering “what the heck are these for?” I forgot to take a photo.
That’s what I’ll be asking tomorrow. What on earth are these low sinks in the women’s locker room? I’ve been racking my brain for two days on what they could be.
I’ll take a photo next time and share it. Never seen anything like it in my life.
