Today was my first day of leave and it was filled with errands. Replacing tyres in my car, running to my LYS (local yarn shop) for a new needle, buying a new golf glove, going to the doctor (again!), going to get more scripts filled (again), doing my shopping, you get the drift.
I thought that as I’d be waiting around at various appointments, I should bring my knitting rather than doom scrolling on my phone as is the case usually (unless I chat away with others waiting too). However, this doesn’t happen as many people have their head down looking at their phones.
So I took my knitting with me.
It’s kept in this wonderful canvas square bag with rope you pull to close it shut.
The bag was a Christmas gift from Andrew from a company called Fringe Supply Company. Here’s what it looks like. ?
Knitters go crazy about this bag and at times, they’re hard to come by with waiting lists. I’m surprised how he found out about this bag then bought me not just one but TWO types. I knew there was a reason why I loved him. ?
I surprised myself.
I half finished one sleeve to my Avena jumper (designer Jen Steingass) just by pulling it (rather than the phone) out of my bag when I was waiting around. I had some strange looks my way and two people asked me what I was knitting. On the whole, no one paid attention so I was left to knit in public in peace.
I have no idea why at times I feel it’s weird to knit in public. Maybe it’s because it’s so rare to see anyone else doing it?
I shouldn’t worry about it though. It makes me calm, it opens conversations, it’s good for my health, sanity, stress levels and doesn’t put any pressure on my neck.
Overall it’s been a good day for me despite the running around. I managed to also enjoy a quiet breakfast at a local cafe this morning too. It’s the little things like this that make me feel normal. I actually enjoy my own company.
Now, I’ve got my cup of coffee, a bit of dark bitter chocolate to nibble on while dinner cooks in the oven. I will settle to review the various films from the French Film Festival program that is on in Melbourne. I’m hoping to go out and see a couple of films and make an afternoon of it. A glass of wine or coffee and cake usually goes with such jaunts. ?
I’m looking forward to tomorrow too.
I persuaded my parents to leave the house for a bit. I’ll take them to the wonderful South Melbourne market. I was there last week but didn’t get a chance to go around all the stalls because I wanted to experience it with them. I think they’ll love it. They’re still anxious about covid but if we mask up and then buy some food items, we can enjoy a picnic in a park nearby.
I think a change of scenery will do them the world of good.
