Is it happy?
Will it be happy?
It seems weird to start my first post of the new year having a bit of a whinge and a cry. After all, we’ve been through the crappiest couple of years and now heading into a new one with the hope of some improvement.
(However, at times I feel the world will implode).
Instead, we’re talking boosters. We’re talking Djokovic. We’re talking non-existent rapid antigen tests.
Lies, lies and more lies by politicians who have effectively, given up. They’re going through the motions too.
I went into 2022 completely disheartened, demotivated, uncaring and mentally drained about everything.
As the days of January unfold, I’m finding myself and my headspace even more disconnected and can’t get into my work at all. I am going through the motions.
I’m hoping that this is a phase that I’ll overcome with time and realise it’s not about what I’m doing per se but the situation the collective finds itself in.
It’s tough to get excited about anything anymore.
However, there’s little things that keep my mind occupied to pass the time:
Reading books
Knitting projects
Tending to my pot plants (which have increased considerably)
Walking and running
French studies
I have added a new project to the list this year and this is to completely redesign and landscape our back garden.
My focus is to reduce the amount of vegetation and weeding and in its place, create a Mediterranean oasis with all my trees and plants in terracotta pots. Open grape arbour with climbing vines and planters. Lemon and olive trees in giant pots; with lavender, geraniums and others such as lots of mint, daphne, thyme and oregano. Poppies, lots of poppies.
If I could look ahead a few more years, I hope to be retired finally from the work force. (Sorry to say that this new world of work isn’t doing much for me anymore as I find some things ‘missing’ from the current rhetoric about modern work. What’s missing is creativity, empathy, human connections, social gatherings, personal learning, communication and community ). In future, I’d like my new back yard to be a space where I can entertain people or bring people into this space and make it as some kind of social learning space where I can teach others to knit, or have French meetups or a neighbourhood book club – but these are just ideas at the moment.
That’s it. That’s all I’ve got for this blog post.
The stilted nature of this blog post shows you the state of my mind at the moment.
