I’m doing Meredith Lewis daily creative prompt challenge. Today, she’s asked us to imagine what the colour of lilac would taste, feel, sound like – to pretend we are a synesthete.

I’ve often wondered how people can have this skill and what it would fee like. I feel overwhelmed with my current senses at times so can’t imagine what they would react to certain colours.

What Would Lilac Taste Like?

If I was to imagine this lilac colour, the first thing that came to my mind would be it would taste like Ribena, the syrupy blackcurrent sugar drink that people drink to increase their Vitamin C intake. However, it wouldn’t be as strong as Ribena (which is usually watered down). Instead, it would be a Ribena milkshake. The milk would lessen the strength of the blackcurrent taste.

I’ve not heard of a Ribena milkshake, so I look it up and lo and behold…

Now, if lilac could be heard, what would it sound like?

I had to think long and hard about this but I think it would be calming, laid back and slightly melancholic music. Music to put on in the background that isn’t an affront to your ears…

So I had a look and guess what I found…

Now what would this lilac smell like?

I can imagine it has a pleasant smell. One that is sweet and subtle. When you smell it, it delights you so you need to smell it again and try and place the aroma. It’s faint and delicate.

What Would Lilac Feel Like?

I imagine it would feel like running your hand over the softest flokati wool rug. It was the first thing that jumped to my mind. Soft, plush, where you just need to squish it between your fingers or put your face into it because it’s so soft.
