After my post on “What? You Don’t Do That? We Thought You Did!” had some discussion, I stumbled upon The Context of Things website that had a blog post on
IS YOUR JOB WHAT YOU THINK YOU DO,
TELL PEOPLE YOU DO,
OR ACTUALLY DO?
Pertinent question and excellent timing.
I don’t know about you but sometimes I find the question difficult to answer depending on the company that I’m with. This may not be the issue for some vocations that are known in society such as bank manager, real estate agent and many others. Even though my formal job title is “Role Based Induction Capability Consultant”, it’s a bit of a mouthful. Frankly, it’s also meaningless to people outside the organisation – maybe even inside.
I explain my role as what I do. It’s usually something like, “I work with internal clients to create onboarding programs for new people joining so that they get a great welcome and start in their role and in our organisation.” Something as simple as that which usually gets a raised eyebrow and a couple of introductory questions.
As I kept exploring, I found that you can even create your own meme…
After a wild week on learning blogs with charters, manifestos, responses to manifestos and utter confusion about what L&D are and what they do, here’s my comical take.
