Uneasy

August 2024

I used to say, “I’ll never understand how the world got itself to the point of World War II happening.”

Now I know.

I’m not going to lie. Every night when I see the horror happening in Palestine and how, despite countries condemning Israel through words alone, I’m at a loss trying to understand my fellow humans.

Add to that, Ukraine and the devastation in Sudan.

I turned to my husband last night and said, “What can we do? What can I do? What can the general public do to help? Give money? Demonstrate? What?”

There’s a part of me that dies a bit inside when I see that not only can’t I help in some small way but world governments are standing back and doing nothing.

Everyone has turned the blind eye.

Everyone is waiting it out.

Everyone is waiting for the others to make the first move.

Ultimately nothing is being done. Except condemn the actions with words. More words. Empty words.

Are we that backwards as a human race that we have lost compassion and empathy for others?

This is what concerning me most.

Nothing is shocking to us anymore. We are all retreating inside ourselves and creating walls around us pretending everything is ok.
