Fixing the Dishwasher

April 2023

We have a lot of old appliances that are slowly giving up the ghost after 30+ years of use. As much as I want to hold onto them, I’m always looking out for parts to fix them but it’s getting harder.

Two weeks ago, the dishwasher’s handle became loose so I couldn’t open it. Luckily I found the part for $55. It arrived within a couple of days and today, I thought I’d tackle fixing it.

So I found a TouTube video and followed the steps.

I set up my screwdriver kit (I don’t have any tool that is electric or battery operated as I’m scared of tools in general 🤣)

This was the part that was replaced with the white new one. It was relatively simple but I couldn’t open it wide enough to unscrew it. This took time squashing my hand in the area.

As a result, I cut myself trying to get the part out. I didn’t see it until I saw blood dripping from cuts in my hand. I had to put Band-Aid’s on my hand. Imagine if I had an electric screwdriver! I would have drilled a limb Im sure!

Finally I got it fixed! I was amazed. I screwed the screws in and then turned on the power and…..nothing.

I got the door fixed but now there’s no power to it. Andrew looked at it when he got home and he thinks there’s a loose wire somewhere. Oh crap. I thought I was going to save us $800 or thereabouts for a new dishwasher. Instead, we will have to buy a new one. I don’t think any new dishwashers would last another 30 years.

Oh well. At least I tried!
