Creating a Book Club Journal

February 2025

I’ve been on a roll lately creating a couple of journals that are not only creative to make but also a lot of fun.

Recently I made a Reading Journal that I could use to write notes every time I read with the intention of selling it on Amazon.

However I keep delaying putting it up there because I know the ideas of what I put in it (the questions, the prompts etc) would be stolen by unscrupulous people or scraped by AI, so I figure “why even bother?”

I decided instead to hold off from publishing it and instead stay closer to home by creating one for the Book Club members I run.

I used Lulu as the publisher and distributer and it was easy and fairly cost effective too. If I wanted I could now sell these individually or even hand them out as gifts.

I designed the journal in Canva and used AI to generate an image that included golf, books and reading. Inside, the prompts were specific to my book group and I also created my own book rating scale using golfing terms.

Eg. Hazard = a terrible read/book and a “Hole-in-One” is a great book.

I can’t wait to see the members reactions and hope that these journals help them get inspired to take notes when they read books for our Book Club – or just provide a laugh. 😆

I’m thinking in the near future to write a more detailed journal – with lots of different activities and sections but I’d need to buy an actual ISBN to prevent theft but the more I think about it, the more I get put off by the idea preferring to create books for myself or to sell to more local and close to home people.

Let’s see.
