Mucking about with the mobile WordPress app in my hammock this afternoon, I saw the “Story Post” option which looks like you can create basic stories and upload these as pages onto your blog.
I’ve been using the stories feature for many years (with Snapchat – and blogged about this many times in this blog) since 2017 and have basically the years between 2017-2020 recorded in daily videos. All my inane thoughts, all my projects, all my trips away, I took footage of it all.
In some way, my footage taken of trips to Hawaii, Germany and France are the ones I refer to often. I take things in the moment. Laughter with friends, things we are doing, first reactions, people talking – through these stories I relive the moments. To me, I’ve captured a bit of time that I can relive when I want to.
For example, all my jaunts overseas to learning and development conferences, I’ve captured it all! Here’s an example at LearnTec in Karlsruhe.
And here’s one where I got on the WRONG train and was heading south into another country, instead of north to Strasbourg. I’ll NEVER forget the tension and anxiety I had that day…because I captured it.
Or days where I just like to go to art galleries (because it’s not Andrew’s thing)…yep, captured the entire day too…even creating videos with music to them and different camera angles to create a story timeline. On this particular day I checked out a modern art exhibition. (I would LOVE to recreate these again but maybe in the style of Wes Anderson shots….maybe in the future)….
So you can see how they were a creative outlet for me and I LOVED doing them.
However in 2020, when covid came and lockdowns commenced, I think I fell down a black hole when it came to continuing to do these. It felt frivolous, selfish and besides, each day was the same. I wasn’t my happy, chirpy self anymore. Even now, as I look at these videos, I have aged, (certainly I’m growing out my grey hair), I’m less ‘out there’ a little bit more serious.
Anyway, I took to journalling through 2020-2021 instead, filling up about 7 books with writing. The videos were left aside.
This year, it’s this blog. I’m writing more here and I’m finding that I’m writing in my journals less and less. Video not so much (they’re unlisted or private in YouTube) .
This blog has become my outlet instead.
Maybe I can capture photos and use this basic stories feature in WordPress to relive moments sometimes. ?
I wonder how much space it takes up? Hope my WordPress limit can handle it. ?
