February 2022
Andrew (everyone knows him as ‘Tex’) and I celebrated our 16 years of marriage today and we celebrate each year by giving each other small amusing gifts according to the gift calendar and also trying out a new restaurant in a locale that is not our usual hangout.
Tonight it was Mexican at La Cabra restaurant in the beachside suburb of Hampton. It wasn’t a bad meal and I did enjoy my frozen Margherita but what made it even better was we went for a short walk along the road and I saw an optometrist who had their entire window display decked out with Noam Chomsky books!

Well anyway, I can’t believe how quickly the years have zipped by.
Tex is my best friend and confidante, my biggest supporter and has the weirdest sense of humour. His music taste is a little bit off for my liking though. Oh, and he has a strange obsession with Batman.
He also does these random spontaneous bursts where he mutes the program I’m watching on television and then proceeds to create an entire scene with his own amusing dialogue and different voices for characters. It makes me equally annoyed as well as happy and, I can’t stop laughing. Or rolling my eyes.
For 16 good years, I’ll take Batman, Rammstein and laughing any day.
Here’s to 16 more years…hopefully more of course. 16 year anniversary today! @TigerTex1 and I get amusing gifts
16=Wax.
He is a keen movie goer & complained he hasn’t been in 2 years bc of covid. So I bought him a scented candle that smells like the cinema.
Look what he bought me. ? ? pic.twitter.com/MYlNrQZwDn
Funny Side Story with His Name
Andrew’s name is Tex because many years ago, when I first met him, he had the startling resemblance to Australian singer song writer Tex Perkins of how he looked like in his band, The Cruel Sea. Andrew was skinny, tall, had tattoos, a goatee and had the biggest quiff I ever saw on anyone. His uniform always seemed to be faded jeans, collarless white shirt and a vest. He had an earring (still does), at the end of his fingers, constant stream of cigarettes. (Luckily he’s since quit for many years). On his feet, pointiest shoes – pinkel winkers I think he called them.
Let’s just say it wasn’t love at first sight. I looked at him quizzically. He simply intrigued me – especially when he said he was a tax auditor. (Indeed, he was one of these people who always knew what they wanted to be from childhood – he dreamed to be an accountant and I did a double take. Accountant? WTF? Did I hear that right? That was his dream? So here was an accountant who was also an AUDITOR). Then he throws in to the mix to confuse me even more…..that he was also a ball room dancer.
What the hell?!
I remember asking him why he was called Tex on the first night we met.
“Some say I look like Tex Perkins from the Cruel Sea,” he replied.
“What? I don’t get it!” I said. “The classic novel written in the 1950s by Nicholas Montserrat? How does that got to do with the way you look?”
“Who? What are you talking about?” He asked me.
“What? Who do you mean?” I ask.
I think he just stared at me in disbelief after that. I’m sure he thought I was a nutter. Rest assured he knows all about the book The Cruel Sea now and I still have no idea about the band, The Cruel Sea.
I must have been the only person in Australia who didn’t know Tex Perkins. Little did he know (although he probably realised it then) how clueless I was to do with anything about the music scene. Guess my fate was sealed then.
To this day, he can still try to talk to me and educate me about the music scene and it would be like he’s talking to me about the tax implications of accelerated depreciation of assets.
Here’s some other anniversaries from previous years…. Celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary tonight!!! Getting into the Hungarian wine and beers and pretending to be in Budapest and waiting for our Hungarian meal. One day we will be in the actual city! pic.twitter.com/pUczmECZTR
