Third Place is a social networking and co-working community of people who are interested in all forms of learning and who come from a variety of industries and sectors. It doesn’t matter if you’re a student, a freelancer, contractor, or employee of any company, small or large, there is always a place for you to join us. Best of all, events are FREE!
Connecting through social media or online networks is one way of networking but then meeting face-to-face takes the relationship to a whole different level. Third Place is where ideas are sparked, networks created and opportunities made to share an interest or collaborate on a project. These drive your motivation, enthusiasm and passion for learning and sharing your work.
The name derives from Ray Oldenburg’s book, The Great Good Place and denotes own social space separate for our work and our home.
It is where we get together to chat and foster new connections, new networks and interactions in a social and informal setting in cafes, libraries, bars, pubs and restaurants.
Events have included site tour visits to workplaces, training establishments, co-working spaces and simulation centres. Events also include participating in various events around Melbourne and other cities related to learning (eg. Melbourne Knowledge Week and Future Summit and Technology Conferences), or simply chilled back with breakfast and lunches at local cafes or after work drinks.
Third Place is your ‘third place’ – away from work and home and a chance to meet new friends face-to-face after connecting online through social media such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Yammer or others and to bring your personal learning networks to life.
